Experience in designing PCB hardware for RF systems including an understanding of transmission line theory.
Experience with or a working knowledge of RF engineering principles.
Demonstrated experience with multi-layer PCB design, prototyping and testing.
Experience using lab equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analysers (SA) and Vector Network Analysers (VNA).
Experience in using programming languages such as C/C++ or Python, preferably targeting digital hardware such as embedded ARM processors.
Experience with designing products for a commercial environment with aim to minimise cost and power consumption.
Critical thinking capability and an aptitude for learning.
Familiarity with design documentation and collaboration using tools such as Confluence.
Clear communication skills and an ability to write clear test plans and test reports.
Purpose and Responsibilities of the Role
As a Hardware Engineer you will be part of a talented team of engineers designing and building Quasar’s Phased Array Ground Stations.
Quasar’s Phased Array Ground Stations are optimised for sub-zero operating conditions and are characterised by careful and efficient hardware system design, enabling cost effective and novel solutions to a growing infrastructure challenge posed by the expanding Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite market. The Hardware Engineer will be an integral member of the hardware design team with an aim to solve this challenge.
This will require you to:
Design PCB hardware for phased array systems using Altium Designer. This will involve schematic capture and PCB layout.
Review Circuit schematic symbols and PCB footprints.
Liaise with PCB manufacturers to settle on appropriate layer stackups and design rule constraints.
Simulate circuits as required using tools such as LT spice or similar.
Create documentation detailing design choices on a shared information platform such as Confluence.
Actively participate in schematic design reviews, pcb layout reviews and prototype reviews.
Actively maintain version control of hardware files.
Work closely with Antenna, Systems, Mechanical and Software engineers to create prototype test plans.
We offer you:
An exciting technical project with scope to collaborate with research groups and work on emerging technology.
An opportunity to join a young team and shape/influence hardware design direction.
Opportunity to grow and develop new skills as part of a truly multi-disciplinary hardware team.
An opportunity to become an early integral member in the Australian space industry.
Technical and industry training where it is needed.
A team where people are prioritised and work satisfaction and happiness is of utmost importance.
Company Background
Quasar Satellite Technologies is revolutionising global satellite to ground station communications by bringing to market an exciting new Australian technology from CSIRO and its other industry founders.
Quasar’s Ground Station as a Service (GSaaS) delivering Space Data as a Service (SDaaS) will exploit its world-leading radio antenna and applications technology to greatly increase the capacity and reduce the cost of communicating with satellites and spacecraft in Low, Medium and Geostationary orbits.
Quasar is an equal opportunity employer that empowers its people.
